02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Base (Midlothian) SCIO provides inclusive opportunities for local kids and their families. Our aim is to reduce social isolation, improve wellbeing and give kids a safe, welcoming place where they can make friends, build confidence and enjoy positive experiences, regardless of their family's financial circumstances. We do this by running regular youth club sessions, community events, trips and a range of educational and recreational activities throughout the year. Our weekly youth club sessions are free for all registered children. We also provide free seasonal celebrations, team-building activities and other special events whenever funding allows. Trips and some larger community events have a small charge to help cover costs, but we keep these as affordable as possible to ensure they are accessible while helping the charity remain sustainable. We also organise occasional pop-up sessions when volunteer availability allows and continue to seek funding to introduce holiday prog
