02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

We encourage people to learn more about, share knowledge of, and enjoy geology and related earth sciences. Membership is open to all and our members range from professional geologists to those with no prior knowledge. We issue online newsletters and hold regular talks and events, aiming to be as inclusive as possible, especially given the large geographical area of the Highlands. Talks and lectures include in-person and online, mostly with no charge. Events include local outings and longer trips further afield to learn about different geological features. We help support the work of other geology-related societies and organisations and sometimes arrange joint events. We have a significant collection of books and journals, maintained through Highlife Highland Library services, which are available for reference by the public as well as on loan to members.”
