02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Canine and Able aims to improve the mental wellbeing of the elderly, people with an illness or disability, young people struggling with education, or those dealing with stress in the workplace. We do this by providing regular or one-off Therapy Dog visits where volunteers take their dogs to visit care homes, hospitals, schools, work-places etc. The social interaction with our volunteers and the close contact with the highly trained dogs brings improvements in wellbeing, confidence, motivation and a light-relief and/or comfort from stressful situations. We also carry out general obedience dog-training to help fund our charitable activities and train and assess Assistance Dogs.
