02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Howe of Fife Community First Responders provide rapid, lifesaving support during medical emergencies, bridging longer rural ambulance response times in the Howe of Fife. Our CFRs are dispatched by Ambulance Control to attend a wide range of 999 medical emergency calls in the Howe of Fife area. Our aim is to reach potentially life threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrests, strokes and breathing difficulties, within the first vital minutes before the ambulance crew arrives. Trained by the Scottish Ambulance Service, volunteers provide emergency medical care and can deliver early high-quality CPR and defibrillation. Outcomes for patients are improved and the chances of surviving a cardiac arrest are increased. We contribute further by increasing the likelihood of bystander CPR in the community through delivering CPR and AED awareness sessions.

Constitutional objectives
4 The organisation’s purposes are: The saving of lives, and education within the agreed geographical area of Howe of Fife and surrounding areas by: (a) responding to life threatening emergency calls including but not exclusively, cardiac arrest, medical collapse and other situations as determined by the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) to those in need. Operating in accordance with the SAS First Responder Handbook & Governance Framework. (b) improving awareness of basic life support and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (c) raising funds, receiving grants, and accepting donations for the benefit of the organisation.
