02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Highlands Psychoanalytic Collective is set up to improve the mental health and emotional wellbeing of children and young people in the Highlands, particularly those who face barriers to specialist support. We use psychoanalytic psychotherapy to help young people understand and work through emotional difficulties, with an emphasis on early intervention and lasting change. We are developing locally accessible services in Inverness and Nairn, working with GP practices, schools and other partners. We also run monthly reflective groups for frontline workers in health, education and the third sector, helping them support young people with complex needs. Through public events, film and poetry discussions, and community research, we encourage understanding of mental health and create opportunities for reflection and connection. We are also developing sport-based therapeutic support to reach young people who may not use traditional services.
