Constitutional objectives

7.1 The objects of the SCIO are to: 7.1.1 restore, repurpose and maintain the historic Grade-B listed Dryfesdale and Trinity Church and Session House buildings, High Street, Lockerbie DG11 2AF as a community asset. 7.1.2 operate SCIO property as a commemorative site, place of pilgrimage and museum to advance the rich local heritage and history of Lockerbie spanning over 6,000 years. 7.1.3 preserve, maintain and expand the existing World War I & World War II Memorial Shrine Chapel sanctuary area to include a memorial to the 270 victims killed in the deadliest terrorist attack in United Kingdom history occurring in Lockerbie on 21 December 1988. 7.1.4 provide an organisational space for a library, educational programs and interactive exhibition spaces to encourage participation and learning about the relevance of Lockerbie's rich history to contemporary society and the world at large. and 7.1.5 make the SCIO buildings available for any appropriate cultural events, commemorative, spiritual and celebratory services required by the community. 7.2 In particular for the purposes of the 2005 Act the charitable purposes identified as applicable from section 7 of the 2005 Act are:- 7.2.1 the advancement of arts, heritage or culture. and 7.2.2 the advancement of education.
