4 The organisation’s purposes are to advance the understanding of Wigtown’s heritage through the story of the Wigtown Martyrs. The organisation’s purposes are: (a) to preserve the site of the “Martyrs’ Stake” which marks the place where Margaret Wilson and Margaret McLachlan were drowned for their faith. (b) to promote safe access to the site. (c) to promote an understanding of the site as it would have been in 1685. (d) to take such other steps and actions as the trustees consider appropriate to protect and promote the memory of the Wigtown Martyrs.
