Constitutional objectives

The SCIOs purposes are to benefit principally the community of Hawick which comprises the town of Hawick and the area of Teviot head and Liddesdale ('the Community') with the following objects: • To advance citizenship and community development by operating St Marys Kirk as an inclusive, accessible community space that provides facilities, activities, and programmes supporting local residents, community groups, and social wellbeing. • To advance arts, culture, and heritage by preserving, interpreting, and promoting the historical, architectural, and cultural significance of St Marys Kirk. providing exhibitions, educational materials, and events relating to Hawicks industrial, ecclesiastical, and social history. • To advance education by delivering and facilitating learning opportunities for schools, community groups, and the general public, including workshops, heritage interpretation, skills development, and programmes that increase understanding of local history, heritage, environment, and culture. • To advance environmental protection and improvement by conserving the fabric of the historic building. promoting sustainable use of resources within its operation. and providing activities, events, and learning that encourage environmental awareness, stewardship, and sustainable community practices. • To provide recreational facilities and activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for local people, by offering creative, cultural, social, and wellbeing-focused activities within St Marys Kirk and its grounds.
