Constitutional objectives

The companys purposes are: (a) To preserve and promote the historic Whalsay Kirk for the public benefit as a flexible, inclusive, and sustainable community asset. (b) To advance education by providing opportunities for learning and participation in areas such as local history, heritage, creative arts, environmental awareness, and traditional skills. (c) To advance citizenship and community development by encouraging volunteerism, social engagement, intergenerational collaboration, and community-led regeneration. (d) To advance the arts, heritage, culture and science by hosting exhibitions, performances, cultural activities, and projects that celebrate and protect Whalsays historic and cultural identity. (e) To provide recreational facilities and activities that support health, wellbeing, and active lifestyles, including those promoting active travel, walking, and access to outdoor spaces. (f) To advance environmental protection or improvement by encouraging sustainable practices, promoting energy efficiency in the preservation of the building, and supporting biodiversity and climate awareness initiatives within the community. These purposes shall be carried out for the benefit of the public, with particular emphasis on the residents of Whalsay and those visiting or engaging with the Kirk, without private benefit.
