Constitutional objectives
The Organisation has been formed to benefit the community of individuals and organisations in Scotland and internationally who participate in, teach, study, promote or have an interest in Highland Dancing and its associated cultural traditions (the 'Community'). The charitable purposes of the Organisation are: To advance the art, heritage and culture of Highland Dancing, both in Scotland and internationally, for the public benefit, and to preserve its traditional form while supporting its continued development. To promote education in Highland Dancing by: (a) encouraging the public to undertake instruction from appropriately qualified and recognised teachers. (b) supporting high standards of teaching, learning and performance. and (c) establishing, maintaining and promoting consistent standards of technique and performance in Highland Dancing. In furtherance of educational and cultural standards: To:(a) encourage recognised teachers to teach common basic steps and techniques for traditional Highland dances and other dances commonly performed at Highland Games and related competitions. and (b) maintain and promote the use of authoritative technical guidance, including the official RSOBHD Textbooks, as updated from time to time. To promote high standards, fairness and integrity in Highland Dancing competitions and championships by: (a) setting and overseeing rules and conditions for recognised competitions and championships (b) recognising established championships. and (c) discouraging unnecessary duplication of such events where this would not be in the public interest. To encourage cooperation and collaboration between recognised associations, organisations and individuals involved in Highland Dancing, without direct or indirect discrimination. To do all such other lawful things as may further the above charitable purposes, provided that such activities deliver public benefit and are consistent with the requirements of a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
