Essity has as a KPI to source from suppliers who commit in writing to respect and implement the requirements detailed in Essity’s Supplier Code of Conduct and to enforce similar requirements further upstream in their supply chain. In 2023 92% of Essity Procurement spend is with suppliers who have committed to Essity’s Supplier Code of Conduct. The number is shared publicly in Essity's Annual and Sustainability Report vs 90% achieved in 2022 and 88% in 2021. The target is to achieve 95% by 2025.

• Risk: Legislation on due diligence and forced labour required more frequent supplier and supplier family tree screening. Other actions have been in the areas chain of custody verification for raw materials.

• Mitigation: This required supplier and supplier family tree screening, chain of custody verification for raw materials, ethical audits and certifications. We discontinued several supplier business relationships where full transparency of their labour force was not provided, both of their direct and of their sub supplier labour force.
• Risk: Sanctions due to Russian invasion of Ukraine triggered raw material origin checks, whilst the risk for illegal immigration / forced labour / trafficking increased with addition of Ukrainian refugees.

• Mitigation: Educating procurement teams of the risk of potential forced labour or modern slavery and the requirements in recent legislation and potential impacts on Essity.
