Retention circumstances

Retention clauses are typically applied only to higher value contracts; however, there is no fixed threshold. The decision to apply retention is based on the nature and risk of the works being undertaken and is made on a case by case basis by the buyer. Where retention is applied, DRET's standard retention terms are 5% during the contract while works are on site, in line with standard JCT building contract terms.

Retention release

DRET contract retention terms are 5% during the contract when works are on site, in line with standard JCT building contract terms.
Upon practical completion this reduces to 2.5% of the contract sum which is held for 12 months during the defects period. When the 12 month defects period is completed, an end of defects inspection is carried out with the contractor.

Any defects identified will be completed by the contractor and, upon completion, the remaining 2.5% retention sum is released. If defects are not completed, some of the retention may be withheld to complete the works.

Retention release stages

Money is released in stages:
• 2.5% released on practical completion.
• 2.5% released after completion of defects

Reported risks and mitigations

  • Risk: Supply chains linked to the manufacture of ICT equipment and school uniforms, because of the Trust’s use of external suppliers to provide items and the likelihood that goods are manufactured overseas.
  • Area: Within your supply chains
  • Tier: Tier 1 suppliers
  • Group: Women Migrants Children
  • Mitigation: Uniform items provided by a range of suppliers, with procurements locally. Suppliers have many supply chains contract terms vary. As contracts expire, we will consolidate the supplier base. PE kit procured Trust-wide. Suppliers have MS policies and carry out checks and has SMETA/SEDEX standards.
  • Risk: Supply chains linked to the catering and cleaning services, where the Trust uses external contractors, and delivery of capital works projects via contractors
  • Group: Women Migrants Refugees Children
  • Mitigation: Cleaning & catering procured via third-party public sector frameworks and DPSs. All contain contractual requirements relating MS or require the supplier to undertake strict vetting. For catering contracts detailed labour cost data, including hourly rates of pay is provided. Capital procurement managed centrally. Trust uses JCT contracts , the terms of which require contractors comply MS laws and implement due diligence procedures.
  • Risk: Engagement of staff via employment agencies (predominantly teaching and education support staff, occasionally admin or site staff)
  • Group: Women Migrants Refugees
  • Mitigation: Supply agencies have been procured and contracted with through the Government’s Crown Commercial Services (CCS) Supply Teachers and Temporary Staffing procurement framework. Not only does this platform use only reputable employment agencies to source labour, but the framework has a strong vetting process that verifies the practices of these agencies. Introduction of new agencies is subject to a variation process and strict compliance checks.

PSC records are company-filed public-register information. When the exact same displayed individual name occurs at multiple companies, BritDB offers a non-indexed cross-reference page. It is a name match only, not proof that the records describe the same person. Service addresses and partial dates of birth are deliberately omitted.

09 Charity register

Charity Commission links

Snapshot 29 September 2026
CCEW

No exact company-number link in this snapshot

The Charity Commission extract did not explicitly associate this Companies House number with a charity. BritDB does not use a name-only match to fill the gap.

i

This company-level check covers the Charity Commission for England and Wales. Links are accepted only when the official extract supplies this exact company registration number. Scottish charities now have separate OSCR profiles, but OSCR’s bulk fields do not provide a Companies House number, so BritDB does not infer a company link.

The CCNI source number did not resolve uniquely to this Companies House record. BritDB did not use a name or address match.
