Newcastle City Council has undertaken a procurement process to appoint a single contractor for the provision of funeral services. The service framework contract is for a 24 month period with two options to extend for 12 months. The council has a statutory duty to provide the arrangement and conducting of municipal funerals for those residents who are unable to meet the expenses themselves. In 2024 the council carried out a total of 33 contract funerals. The total estimated value of expenditure over the 4-year period is £169,000, based on average expenditure of £42,665 per annum. This service is based upon needs of the community.
