The course provides an introduction to usability and user experience in the areas of: • Usability principles and guidelines • Understanding and defining the context of use: o Procedures for analysis o Observation o Interviews o Personas o Scenarios o User groups • How to gather and specify user requirements • Describing user interactions: o Design o Low and high-fidelity prototypes o Dialogue principles o Heuristics o Guidelines o Best-practice error messaging • Usability testing and other evaluation methods o A step-by-step approach to running a usability test o Typical errors o Heuristic evaluation o Questionnaires • Interviews o Personas o Scenarios o User group profiles • Systematically deriving user needs from context of use descriptions o Differentiate between types of user needs o Apply quality factors for user needs o Recognise user needs in context of use information o Formulate user needs so that enables requirements can be derived • Deriving, specifying, structuring and prioritising user requirements o Validate user requirements with users o Use of a structured scheme for prioritisation o Ranking the relevance of user requirements together with users Processed by SSCL
