Description
The PHAST modelling software developed by DNV is a globally adopted solution for modelling discharge, dispersion, fires, explosions and toxic effects of a wide range of loss of containment scenarios. The software is regularly used by SEAD for commercial projects, HSE funded research projects1 and incident investigation. The tool is often used by both SEAD and CEMHD5 as part of general regulatory activities. It is a tool widely used by industry and duty holders often use it as part of their Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations report risk assessments and sometimes there is a requirement for HSE to check the method used and the results produced. Currently, PHAST is being extensively used by SEAD for a number of net-zero projects that relate to the key areas of the Government's Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution. HSE would not be able to continue supporting this work without continued and easy access to PHAST licences. Within SEAD we also regularly deliver commercial work where we utilise this software.
